What does Word Counter do?
Count words, Unicode characters and non-whitespace characters in English, Italian and Arabic text. It is designed for a focused task you can complete from a modern browser without creating an account. Start with the interactive controls above, then use this guide to understand the output and the cases where you should keep or use a different source file.
How to use this tool
Paste plain text and run the counter. Read the word and character totals together before editing for a limit. Once the result appears, check it before using the copy or download button. You can change the inputs and run the operation again; the original input is not overwritten.
A practical example
A 250-word application answer should be checked with the destination form too. Different systems can treat hyphenated words and punctuation differently.
Limits and important trade-offs
Word counting uses browser word segmentation when available, with a whitespace fallback. The result is an estimate under this documented rule.
Understand the text rules
Plain text can contain more than visible letters. Line breaks, tabs, combining marks and emoji sequences affect counting and transformation. The tool applies the rules stated above rather than pretending every website uses one universal definition. If a form has a strict character or word limit, compare the final text in that form before submission. A destination may count bytes, UTF-16 units or weighted symbols instead.
Paste the actual text you intend to use, including punctuation and paragraph breaks. Formatting such as bold, tables and hyperlinks is not preserved when working in a plain-text box. The source stays available while the output is generated, so compare the two before copying. For Arabic, the input supports automatic text direction, but automatic capitalization rules cannot introduce cases that the Arabic script does not have.
Review before replacing your original
Transformations cannot understand the meaning of every proper name, code sample or reference number. Keep an unchanged copy and review the parts where spacing, punctuation or letter case matters. The input limit is 200,000 characters to keep the page responsive on typical devices. If a longer document needs processing, divide it at paragraph boundaries and check whether that affects the operation you selected.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an account or a subscription?
No account is needed for this browser utility. You can run it from this page, review the output and download or copy the result. File limits protect device memory rather than unlocking a paid tier.
Does the tool upload my input?
The tool processes input locally in this tab. It does not send selected files, pasted text or calculator values to ToolBino. Loading the website and its ordinary analytics are separate; consult the site’s privacy and cookie information for those services.
What should I do if the result is unexpected?
Check the documented limits above, try the worked example, and verify the input format or units. Keep your original until you have checked the result. Reset clears the current tool state; reloading or closing the tab also discards unsaved tool input.
Next useful steps
Choose the next operation that matches your task rather than repeating the same transformation unnecessarily. These related tools use different rules and explain their own limits:
- Character Counter — Count characters with and without spaces, plus user-perceived graphemes for emoji-aware checks.
- Case Converter — Convert text to uppercase, lowercase, sentence case or simple title case without changing your source field.
- Remove Duplicate Lines — Remove repeated lines while preserving the first occurrence and original order.
