Sort Lines

Sort a plain-text list alphabetically or in reverse, using natural numeric ordering.

Preparing the tool…

Your selected files and entered values stay in this browser. The tool does not send them to ToolBino. Site analytics and consent settings are described in our Privacy Policy.

What does Sort Lines do?

Sort a plain-text list alphabetically or in reverse, using natural numeric ordering. It is designed for a focused task you can complete from a modern browser without creating an account. Start with the interactive controls above, then use this guide to understand the output and the cases where you should keep or use a different source file.

How to use this tool

Paste one item per line, choose ascending or descending order and generate the sorted list. Once the result appears, check it before using the copy or download button. You can change the inputs and run the operation again; the original input is not overwritten.

A practical example

A list containing file2 and file10 uses numeric-aware comparison, which is usually more helpful than placing file10 before file2.

Limits and important trade-offs

Blank lines are omitted. Sorting follows the browser locale and may differ from a database or spreadsheet configured for another language.

Understand the text rules

Plain text can contain more than visible letters. Line breaks, tabs, combining marks and emoji sequences affect counting and transformation. The tool applies the rules stated above rather than pretending every website uses one universal definition. If a form has a strict character or word limit, compare the final text in that form before submission. A destination may count bytes, UTF-16 units or weighted symbols instead.

Paste the actual text you intend to use, including punctuation and paragraph breaks. Formatting such as bold, tables and hyperlinks is not preserved when working in a plain-text box. The source stays available while the output is generated, so compare the two before copying. For Arabic, the input supports automatic text direction, but automatic capitalization rules cannot introduce cases that the Arabic script does not have.

Review before replacing your original

Transformations cannot understand the meaning of every proper name, code sample or reference number. Keep an unchanged copy and review the parts where spacing, punctuation or letter case matters. The input limit is 200,000 characters to keep the page responsive on typical devices. If a longer document needs processing, divide it at paragraph boundaries and check whether that affects the operation you selected.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an account or a subscription?

No account is needed for this browser utility. You can run it from this page, review the output and download or copy the result. File limits protect device memory rather than unlocking a paid tier.

Does the tool upload my input?

The tool processes input locally in this tab. It does not send selected files, pasted text or calculator values to ToolBino. Loading the website and its ordinary analytics are separate; consult the site’s privacy and cookie information for those services.

What should I do if the result is unexpected?

Check the documented limits above, try the worked example, and verify the input format or units. Keep your original until you have checked the result. Reset clears the current tool state; reloading or closing the tab also discards unsaved tool input.
